As of 2001 governments regulations require that any person seeking to purchase firearms, receive it as a gift, trading for it or inherit a firearm must have a valid Possession Acquisition Firearms Licence (PAL) to be legal. The Possession Acquisition Firearms Licence will also allow you to:

     > Own a Firearm,

      > Carry a Firearm,

      > Purchase Ammunition,

      > Obtain an authorization to transport

In order to acquire a Possession Acquisition Firearms Licence you must successfully complete a Canadian Firearm Safety Course, and Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course.

Without a Possession Acquisition Firearms Licence, an individual will not be able to purchase ammunition.

The Canadian Firearms Safety Course and / or Canadian Restricted Firearm Safety Course are a basic firearms safety course. It is designed to give the student overall background information about safe firearms handling and familiarity with the laws and procedures regqrding firearms ownership in Canada.
